Welcome to the Shaffer Hotel in Mountainair New Mexico!
After moving to Mountainair, New Mexico in 1908, Clem “Pop” Shaffer built the Shaffer Hotel in 1923. The Shaffer Hotel is now a registered National Historical site and one of the few examples of Pueblo-Deco architecture still in existence today. Additionally, the Shaffer Hotel has become known as a supernatural hotspot and tourist attraction. In fact, it has been said that “Pop” Shaffer himself still roams the halls.
Recently, the Shaffer Hotel as been refreshed with contemporary accommodations while preserving its old fashioned elegance and historical importance. The Shaffer Hotel features 19 rooms ranging from a simple “cowboy” room (that shares a spacious community bath) to our elegant wedding suite with two elegant claw-foot bathtubs and a wet bar. Additional options include double-suites for families. All hotel rooms are furnished with antique furniture from its era. Guests are invited to enjoy our large outdoor park crowned with an Art Deco Gazebo and covered patio or the exercise, billiards, and gaming room.

When you are ready to eat, the Shaffer Restaurant, with its original 1920’s pueblo art deco ceilings, will enhance your dining experience. You will be delighted to enjoy New Mexico’s finest Mexican and South-Western cuisine The Restaurant can prepare a quiet dinner for two, or accommodate a party of one hundred. We will cater any function!
